Jekyll Island - Georgia and....Darien
Since we had the rental car for a week, after we got home from Pompano Beach we took a day trip to Jekyll Island, Georgia. The island has several beaches but I had my eyes set on Driftwood Beach. This is my favorite beach we have been to so far (not for swimming but for walking and taking it all in.) But I guess you will figure that out by all the pictures I took and this is only part of them.
We spent hours walking among the trees. Dad found a few shells. This one is my favorite of all the shells we have found so far. It's not the biggest one we've found but I love the colors. It's hard to see in the pics but it's a pretty gray/blue with orange in it.
I really wanted to bring some drift wood home but it's illegal to take it and if you think about it if everybody did that then this beach wouldn't be as awesome as it is.
We could see this ship from the other end of the beach so we walked to the other side so we could see it better. We weren't sure if they were just working on it or what was up but then if you look close you can see that its tipped on its side. So I goggled it and apparently it capsized in September. https://www.wtoc.com/2019/09/08/ship-tips-its-side-port-brunswick/
It's kind of hard to see in the pic but you would not believe all the birds swarming this boat. They must have had some good fish or something on board.
So we all know about the town by Fargo called Sabin...well just north of Jekyll Island is the town of Darien so we had to go check it out.
It was established in 1736. It's a small town but very cute. There is a fort called Fort King George there which is the oldest English fort remaining on Georgia's coast. It was early evening when we were there and the fort was closing shortly so we didn't get to go in.
Now to find a town called Drake.
Love and miss you all!
