The Gun Flint Trail
So only Chad and I would carefully plan our future by selling our house, quiting our jobs, taking a year off to travel just to get thrown in a pandemic! But there is not much any of us can do about it, the world is crazy right now. So for the few people here that aren't my children - Chad and I were at Darien's riding out COVID when my old boss called and asked if I wanted my old job back. I wasn't really sure what to do. The one thing I know for sure is that our traveling is not done by a long shot and I didn't really want to be stuck in the same old grind. So after much debate, I took my old job and am back at the same old grind. Not being sure what was going to happen with the fallout from the pandemic, I figured, it might be a good thing to have a stable job until all this crap blows over.
I was so excited, wolves are my favorite animal. The first time we went on the Gun Flint Trail we seen a moose. Now a wolf. So all we need is to see a bear up there and we will have the trifecta.
So the Not the middle of Minnesota blog is coming to you from the middle of Minnesota. Last week Chad and I went camping on the Gun Flint Trail. This has been one of our favorite places for years. We usually go at least once a year.
Just a public service announcement - we did not make reservations (we usually don't unless we camp at a resort) we usually just pick a national forest campground and pick a site. Well amid the this pandemic stuff, there were several of the campgrounds that are not open yet. I did not do my due diligence and look online. So if you plan on camping anywhere...look online and make a reservation if you can. Not only to make sure the campground is open but since there isn't a damn thing to do in Minnesota except go camping and fishing this summer everybody is doing it, so the places are packed.
We ended up finding a camping spot in East Bearskin Campground.
We were somewhere in the Superior National Forest on a road between Tofte and Grand Marais and this is what we came upon.
This is why we love camping here. It's the best of two worlds. We get to explore and hike the Superior National Forest and then we also get to come down and explore Grand Marais and Lake Superior.
This is the view of Grand Marais when you come down from the Gun Flint Trail
Sometimes it's hard to tell where the lake ends and the sky starts.
Superior was really calm the day we were there.
The view of Grand Marais from the pier.
Only my kids and close family will understand this....Chad was channeling his inner George. Biologically not possible, but spiritually, totally possible!
Love you all!
Beautiful pictures Tammy, I love reading all that you post. PS welcome home🙂
