5 Things I learned and regrets.
5 things I learned about Florida
1. It's weird but in a lot of ways Florida reminds me of Minnesota. The weather here is pretty much like summer in MN only they have it all year long. If you look out our camper windows it would be hard to tell if were in MN or FL. We found the food and gas prices to be about the same as home so there was no sticker shock there. Except for the palm trees or if your sitting on the beach there are a lot of similarities. The one reason I would hate to live here permanently is they have to mow all year long and that would get real old.
2. Although the gators are everywhere in Florida they are no where! I am sure it's the time of year and they are hibernating/dormant or whatever they do. I wouldn't have wanted to run into one while we were swimming but it would have been cool to see one from afar. Sure we could have stopped at any one of the 400 places that you can "see" live gators but it's not the same. Gators 1 - mom and dad 0.
3. Driving is different here. Minnesota nice doesn't work. I had to get my freak on and drive like a mad person to make it through it especially in the Miami area. Maybe I just have lived a sheltered life and my idea of a big town is St. Cloud or Fargo but it gets crazy. Dad and I have seen more accidents in the month that we've been gone than in the rest of the years we have been alive. But I do have to say the more you do it the easier it gets.
4. The sunrise on the east coast is absolutely perfect and I can't wait to catch the sunset on the west coast!
5. Dad is a total beach bum. I thought that he would get bored but he never did. In fact, I practically had to drag him off. He loved it. We would even go after dark and just sit in the moon light and listen to the waves. One night I didn't feel like going so he went by himself and he was down there for about 2 hours just vegging.
REGRETS.....
1. We really need to spend more time in the Keys. They have their own pace down there and we really just needed to slow down and take it all in. So next time we will definitely do that.
2. We were so exhausted from all the driving to the keys and the traffic that we elected not to go the Everglades the next day. Now we are wishing we had. It would have been way better than the dinner/cruise we took. I am also thinking that you probably can't do the Everglades in a day either so our plan for next time is to take a week or two and camp there and in the keys.
3. We never made it to the west side...not once. There is so much more to see on that side.
We will be home shortly so it'll be dumpling and caramel roll time. And call me crazy but I need some snow, it does not feel like Christmas without snow and our family! Can't wait to see you!
