An Invitation...
To those of you we haven't spoken to in awhile, we went back to Minnesota for the holidays and ended up staying until the end of February. We wanted to do some snowmobiling and we were having fun being with the grand kids. Now we are fully back in travel mode. 😁
We left Minnesota on the morning of the 25th and headed to Texas. The trip down was pretty uneventful. We were both surprised by how little snow there was, even in southern Minnesota. By the time we got to southern Iowa it was all but gone. We made it to Concordia, Kansas the first day. We stopped around 5 p.m. and it was snowing. But in the morning it was gone already. Spent the second night in Alvarado, Texas. Ironically, we were just down the road from where we stayed on the way up but didn't know it until the next day when it was light out.
I wanted to stop in Waco on the way down and go to Magnolia Market. Everybody loves Chip and Joanna Gaines, right? It was a neat little place. We were there on a Thursday afternoon and it was pretty packed with people. I can imagine on Friday and Saturdays it'd be hard to even find a place to park. For some reason I thought that they had done something to the silos but that is coming sometime in 2020. So my big purchase for the day was a coffee mug (because I drink so much coffee... she said sarcastically). I wanted to get something from the bakery but the line was out the door and around the corner.
Bet you can't guess what was dad's favorite thing there!!!!
We were very relieved when we got to the storage unit and everything was just how we left it with the camper. I called around to several campgrounds but nobody had anything open in the San Antonio area so we are about an hour northwest of there. We have only been here a couple days but so far we are liking it more than when we were in Florida. Not so many people, there is room to move, it feels more like home.
We are staying at the Skyline Ranch RV Park in Bandera.
The trees are just starting to green up right now and they line the river all the way down on both sides so once things are blooming it'll be a canopy over the river. Just like in Florida the water is crystal clear and you can see to the bottom.
There are tons of deer here also. This is not good video but.... This is just part of them that crossed, there had to be around 50 of them.
Here the deer are in with the cows, they jump the fence and eat with them during the day.
We spent the last couple days getting the camper in order, spending a bazillion dollars at Walmart on groceries and relaxing after the drive down. So this week the plan is to check out the town and surrounding area. On the way here we passed through Texas wine country. There was vineyard after vineyard for miles. Maybe we can score a good bottle of wine (read good but cheap!) and I also spotted at least 10 antique stores.
I think we have told most of you this but any of our friends and family are welcome to come stay with us anytime (wherever we are). We're certainly not the Ritz but we have a fold out couch and San Antonio has an airport.
Can't wait to explore the great state of Texas!

This is the office and one of the rec buildings. Total Texas vibe.
This park has a path that leads to the Medina River.

Since this is a ranch they have a couple of longhorns, donkeys and sheep.

The oak trees are ginormous.
The fishing pond and that's a pecan orchard in the background.
